Don't be isolated

In 1624 the poet John Donne wrote some lines that describe with clarity how people do better when connected to others.

No man is an island, Entire of itself, Every man is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thy friend's Or of thine own were: Any man's death diminishes me, Because I am involved in mankind, And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
John Donne

Utilising online technologies in learning does not mean encouraging learners to isolate themselves: the Learning Line encourages connections, sharing, communication and integration wherever possible.

Integration enable goal setting

Setting goals is important: important for your organisation and for your team.

Aims reflect expectations and intentions of the organisation, whilst outcomes relate to the achievements of an individual.

Creating definable aims allows objectives to be set towards which efforts can be directed.

In order to set objectives and targets for an individual, we encourage organisations to start by recognising who it is that the individual is 'competing' against. From a learning point of view the answer is themselves. Providing a framework for an individual to design targets that are aimed to boost confidence leads to better outcomes.

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)

Integrating with other systems used by your organisation helps help keep everyone on top of goals.

The Learning Line APIs are used to allow activities to communicate user progress with the Learning Line and to connect to other systems.

Technical note: Coracle's API is a REST API, built using Django REST Framework and comes in three parts: the Statement API, the Activity Profile API and the Activity State API. These elements have been written to mirror the APIs defined in the TinCan API (xAPI) specification. An HTML version of the API can be viewed by authenticated users in a web browser. The data can also be requested from the same URIs/URLs in the Javascript Object Notation (JSON) format. Authentication is handled by the OAuth 1.0a protocol. This allows statements to be sent to our Learning Record Store (LRS) from anywhere on the internet.

Our mission: We're on a mission to create a world where no-one is isolated from learning opportunities, recognising that in a digital world, not everyone has access to the internet. We believe education is a force for social good by enabling employment.
